Is your home or studio accessible?

If you're opening your home or studio for Brockley Open Studios, we'd love you to think about wheelchair-friendly accessibility so we can help visitors plan their route.

Many homes in Brockley weren't designed with wheelchair access in mind, and that's OK — but letting people know what to expect means they can make informed choices about which studios to visit.

Here are a few things to consider:

Getting in: Is there step-free access to your front door, or are there steps? Could a temporary ramp work? Is your doorway wide enough for a wheelchair (at least 775mm clear opening)?

Moving around inside: Can someone in a wheelchair move through your hallway and into the room where your work is displayed? Are pathways clear of obstacles and clutter?

Other considerations: Is there a nearby accessible toilet? Is there somewhere to sit and rest? Is the route from the street to your door even and well-lit?

Even if your space isn't fully accessible, please tell us — we can flag access information on the trail map so visitors know before they set off. Partial information is always better than none.

We will prioritise applications from artists who don't have their own space to exhibit in. The space has been hired from Monday 29th June until Sunday 5th July, inclusive of the Brockley Open Studios weekend. Full terms and conditions are available separately.

Three spaces are available and applications can either be as a single artist or a group exhibition (max 3/4 artists). If you wish to apply as a single artist, we will select 2 other artists to exhibit alongside you. The final selection will depend on the number and types of applications.

Tuesday 30 June - Sunday 5 July (exhibition times to be agreed with artists)

There is wall space suitable for hanging work or projecting on, three huge windows with sills and a concrete floor to utilise. There are also Stas picture hanging rails installed throughout the space. The venue has a small kitchenette with sink, fridge and WC.

Participating artists will be required to share invigilation during opening hours.

The launch event will be held on the evening of Thursday 2 July.

Proposed exhibition theme *Brief description of the proposed theme and how the artists' work will respond to it (200 words or less). It is important to think about the following when developing the proposal: - venue space - number of artists (max 3/4) - variety of work, media and relationship to each other - transport of work - installation and deinstallation considerations

Who will be responsible for curating the exhibition, overseeing the creation of the exhibition text and the installation and deinstallation of the work *

Media and installation information *The shop dimensions are outlined above. The venue owner is happy to facilitate installation fixings, including in the windows and from the ceilings but these will need to be discussed and agreed beforehand (taking any health and safety issues into consideration). Please summarise the media your work will take the form of, and any equipment and or fixings required for exhibiting. This could include digital equipment, plinths, hanging fixings, print browsers, table etc. If there are any fragile, heavy or awkwardly sized works please list so we can discuss installation. Please list dimensions of the work to be included. Framing should be of a professional standard and use of Ikea or clip frames avoided.

Artists' biographies *Please supply a biography for each artist including experience, media, area of interest (200 words or less for each artist). These will be used in promotional materials.

Please attach clearly labelled, good quality digital images of work proposed *(Min 1MB and ideally JPEG). If work is in a different format eg film or sound then an excerpt can be provided. These are for use in the promotional activity. Upload up to 10 supported files: audio, image or video. Max 10 MB per file.

Please provide a list of works to be considered for the exhibition *including the following information - title - medium - date created (year) - dimensions (cm) height, width and depth - any other relevant information such as whether a piece is of significant weight, health and safety issues (eg flashing lights or sharp edges), sensitive content If any work is yet to be completed then an estimation is fine.

EXTRA PHOTO & VIDEO CONTENT

We'd love it if you could send us any photo or video content of yourself at work - this might be shots of you in your studio, or perhaps short video of you talking about your process. We can then use this content to help publicise your work on our instagram as part of our Open Studios publicity. Please make sure photos and videos are of suitable quality. By sharing this content with us, you're consenting to Brockley Open Studios using it for our publicity.
